Professor Jacques Fraissard

Переход к разделу

Prof. Jacques Fraissard

Prof. Jacques Fraissard started his scientific career in 1957 at the Institute of Atomic Energy. From 1970 to now he is the Professor at the P. and M. Curie University in Paris, where he founded the Laboratory of Surface Chemistry. In 1991 he became Professor "Classe Exceptionnelle" (the highest level).

Prof. Fraissard was in one of the first groups of French scientists with whom the French-Russian collaboration in catalysis was started in the 1970s. The collaboration involved the leading BIC researchers like Professors Yu. Ermakov, K. Zamaraev, V. Mastikhin, Z. Ismagilov, etc. Despite numerous political problems in the past, he has always found various and original arrangements for the maintenance of the France-Russia collaboration.

Prof. Fraissard was successful in inviting our scientists to international symposiums, even organized by NATO, at the very time when this was forbidden (the "Cold War"). In more warm times he initiated and organized with our Institute the international symposium on "Magnetic Resonance in Colloid and Interface Science" in St. Petersburg (2001). This Symposium has been attended by famous specialists in the NMR spectroscopy from all over the world (Professors A. Pines and M. Pruski, USA; Z. Luz, Izrael; A. Samoson, Estonia; H. Jakobsen, Denmark; J.-P. Amoureux, France; J. Strange, UK; B. Blumich, H. Eckert, J. Karger, D. Michel, H. Spiess, Germany; etc.). In parallel, a NATO session was held with 20 experts. Till now we got hearty thanks for the organization of the Symposium.

The range of the Prof. Fraissard's interests is very wide. It includes solid-state NMR for the study of solid surfaces and solid-gas interactions, Xe-NMR, low temperature NMR, physical and chemical adsorption, heterogeneous catalysis, the surface properties of oxides and supported metals, acidity of solids, microporosity, mesoporosity as well as structural defects of solids, supported metals, zeolites.

Each time Prof. Fraissard comes to Novosibirsk, he presents new data obtained in these fields. In 2003 Prof. Fraissard gave a lecture devoted to "Golden Catalysts". This September, Prof. Fraissard brought the attention of scientists to a highly topical problem: "NMR studies of supported metals (Pt, Pd)".

In accordance with the new political situation, Prof. Fraissard has proposed some new forms of the collaboration. One of these is the "Common French-Russian Laboratory" with the shared PhD positions. This lab is now supported by the French Embassy. Next year, the first shared PhD student, K. Romanenko, should present his thesis.

In the year 2004, Prof. J. Fraissard was awarded the highest civil title in France - the Legion dТHonneur. Colleagues from the Boreskov Institute of Catalysis congratulate Prof. J. Fraissard on this very honorary title and wish him new discoveries and every much success!

We are glad also very much to wish Prof. J. Fraissard the Siberian health in accordance to the 70th anniversary!
